We had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. It was such a blast. On Saturday, we went to the Scottish Festival. It was so much fun. I have never heard or seen so many bagpipes in my life. I also have never seen so many men wear kilts in my life!
The main reason we went to the Scottish Festival was because our friend, Jake, was competing in the Highland Games. We have never seen something this cool in a long time!!! It is this huge weight competition between this huge dudes that probably eat a cow for each meal.
Jake throwing the weight over the bar. This weight is 52 lbs. It is like taking a huge Sparkletts water jug and throwing it over this high bar with one hand. The bar then goes up another level if you pass.
This is the weight for distance. He does a fancy twist and throws this weight as far as he can.
Sheaf toss. Basically it is a weighted hay stack and he has to throw it over the bar.
Catapult. I think that is what this is called I am not sure though.
Hammer throw.
Here is Jake between all of his manly lifting! He did awesome!
We were totally sporting the kilts! We wanted to show our Scottish Pride! Nick looks pretty good in that kilt I have to say!
Captain I am ready for take off!
He is my muscle man! This didn't fit him before they chiseled out some of the steel to fit his abs and pecks. Oh yeah!
I was taking this photo at a bird show. A woman had just slipped and fallen into this pond of water. She got soaked! Daniel and Caitlin are the background.
In the new polar bear exhibit they have this steal crate type of wall that the polar bears can be fed some snacks. This polar bear loves peanut butter on his apples, but who doesn't... it is just too good.
This statue is the actual size of a grown polar bear. Nick would be squashed in a second. Daniel... probably would last 2 seconds. He has about half a foot on Nick.
We were looking at the Lions and we came upon this nasty sign. It says "Caution: Spray range 7-10 feet." Yeah this gate is about 2 feet from the Lions. SICK! Lets just say we didn't hang out at the Lion's Den very long.

We could not get a very good shot of the Elephants. They were super cute though. We saw one getting a pedicure. It was pretty funny and cool at the same time.

Hammer throw. Our ears were ringing after the Scottish Festival with the bagpipes being played all day long, but what a cool day!
On Memorial Day, we went with our great friends Daniel and Caitlin to the San Diego Zoo. We had so much fun!

We had a fabulous time at the zoo. I have to say it was a gorgeous day and it really was not that crowded which made it even better. We love Caitlin and Daniel and will miss them when we move, but we are excited for our new adventure in Provo.
Nick and I are moving in a couple of weeks and I have already started packing up the stuff we are not going to be using everyday. I am super excited because we found a really cute home that we are going to rent in Provo while I finish school. We are really excited to be close to a lot of our extended family on both sides.

YOu guys are alway doing super fun things! WHat a blast. I would have to say you both looked awesome in kilts!
Aw, I loved this post! There was SO much to see! Looks like the Scottish festival was a blast! I can't believe they had kilts there, Andy has wanted his family Tartan FOREVER...if only I had known I would've had you pick one out for him. Oh well, better luck next time! Jake sure is strong, and it's crazy how little he was compared to the other 'strong men'!
And I loved the pics of the zoo, that's funny and gross about the urine spray distance of the lions...I can believe it though after having worked with domestic cats forever!
And I can't wait for you guys to move here because at least TWICE a month we're gonna have some fun! Luv your guts
Dave wants to know how Nick's genius of a brain could fit inside such a small helmet.
I also asked Dave, "Do you want to see if your friend Nick could pull off a kilt?" and he said, "He totally could! Have you SEEN his calves?!"
There is a free Scottish Festival in Payson, Utah that Danny and I are partially in charge of! And it's only 15 Minutes from Provo!
