I imagine most would think that I, being a "computer nerd", would love computer games. Well...there could not be a more untrue statement! I can't stand them! I think they are worthless, a waste of time, and a general hazard to one's health! I'm sure many do not share my opinion on this matter but I was happy to find that the American Journal of Preventative Medicine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with a few Universities performed a study that verified my feelings. Let me highlight a few points from their research
Playing video games:
- Makes you fat
- Makes you depressed
- Degrades your physical health
- Effects you mental health
- Rids you of any social skills you have
Here is the abstract from the study http://www.ajpm-online.net/webfiles/images/journals/amepre/AJPM_PR_Oct_2009_Video_Games.pdf
That being said....I pass no judgement on those that indulge in such activities. =P

Well Nick, like every study ever done, there is a study out there that contradicts those findings. Just two days ago my daily "SmartBrief" for Nurse Practitioners included the news that video games relieve symptoms of stress and depression. Here's the Washington Post article http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/17/AR2009081702114.html
I guess it's all about moderation :)
haha! That's funny. I agree completely, it is all about moderation. But I'll tell you, 90% of my classmates need to read the article I posted...they fall into the "not so good at moderation" category. I genuinely worry for them...
Please, share this info with Jeff! I don't care if there are other contradicting studies, we just won't tell him about those! :)
I agree wholeheartedly! they make you stupid. and they make my kid ornery.
Amen Nick!
I like the WII, but not so much the other systems.
I don't know about making people stupid, but I do know first hand that when Andy's playing Call of Duty, he's all angry, short tempered and ready to kill anyone and anything...even me if I walk in front of the t.v. ahhhh! :) I personally think I'll stick to my 1-dimensional mario brothers.
